Allan Varela has been involved with the Arts Council since 1988. In 1991 he became a board member and co-director of music. In 2000 Allan became the Arts Council’s first Executive Director and has overseen its growth from a small local group to a Brookhaven powerhouse.

Allan was a performing musician and composer from 1964 to 1985, releasing two albums and several singles, while running his own record company. From 1985 to 1996, he chronicled the march of digital systems into Hollywood production for Variety, Daily Variety, Pro Sound News, Television Broadcast, On Production and many others. He was a full member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), Society of Professional Recroding Services (SPARS), National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Cinema Audio Society (CAS). He conceived and implimented an apprentice education program for SPARS with all the major movie companies in Hollywood and hosted AES Television during conventions. In 1996 Allan moved into writing press releases and designing print ads for several major professional audio manufacturers including Solid State Logic and Tascam.

He has maintained an active record of volunteering for many organizations like Sagamore Children’s Center in Dix Hills, the Colation of Disabled Musicians and local school districts. Allan brings a wealth of knowledge and knowhow to the Arts Council.
