The Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council proudly announces a concert presented in conjunction with the esteemed Sunday Street Acoustic Concerts at the University Café on the campus of Stony Brook University.
On March 14th, 2010, at 2:00 PM, these two organizations will be presenting Rachael Davis, an intriguing young musician performing an eclectic blend of early jazz, torchy blues and Rachael's own brand of soulful songwriting. Rachael will be joined by some of the finest young folk-jazz musicians on the scene today.
About RACHAEL DAVIS:
Songwriter and singing phenom Rachael Davis began singing on-stage at the age of two with her parents. Ten years into her solo career, she’s shared the stage with such musical luminaries as Taj Mahal, Fred Eaglesmith, Josh Ritter, Prairie Home Companion regulars Robin and Linda Williams, folk divas Claudia Schmidt and Sally Rogers, jazz legends Marcus Belgrave and Winston Walls, and many others. In 2003, this Michigan native took Grand Prize in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival's Troubadour Contest.
Rachael’s diverse influences range from the jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald to the soulful pop vocals of Patty Griffin - with many more in between. This contemporary songwriter is equally at home singing anything from traditional ballads to Cole Porter to Joe Henry. Rachael Davis is also no stranger to University Café audiences who recall her memorable performance at the Café in April of 2005. Composer/guitarist Dominic John Davis provides the perfect backdrop for Davis, who possesses a voice that demands attention.
"Davis commands a voice older than her years, an instrument that is equally sure expressing strength and vulnerability, and her songwriting is fearlessly eclectic." - Ben Edmonds, Detroit Free Press
